What are Wellbeing Champions?
Wellbeing Champions act as “go to” individuals within your company that can respond well to those in need of a “listening ear.” They can provide general wellbeing support, facilitate implementation of the company’s health and wellbeing strategy, and signpost the wellbeing support available.
Wellbeing Champions can be a helpful “temperature gauge” and feedback mechanism for employee engagement. Work-related pressures can be high, the support of wellbeing champions can help ensure a mentally and physically healthy team which will reap organisational benefits. Much of this is likely to be due to mental health issues impacting efficiency.
This programme is designed to support people learning to become Wellbeing Champions. It is led by Gill Mathias who is a CPD trainer.
The programme is a combination of 4x 1 hour training sessions over 1 day on Zoom. The delegate must be seen on video throughout the course and present throughout the day. On completion of the attendance each delegate will receive a certificate.
This programme is designed to help and support colleagues but does not replace professionals with qualifications.

Case Study
The purpose of the Champions Course is for the recipient to act as a first “go to” when struggling with mental health. This example is that one of my attendees was able to support a member of her team after the “Champions”programme. A sales executive aged 28 had been experiencing massive stress at work. Deadlines seemed unnmanageable, he was withdrawing from social activities and was late for work. One morning he broke down in tears during a meeting. A colleague noticed and suggested that Mike should speak to the “Mental Health Champion” within the team. Mike was happy to have a chat with Jane who created a safe place for a discussion, and was completely non-judgemental. Jane, through HR and with Mike’s agreement was referred to an independent specilaist for counselling sessions. The early intervention by the “Mental Health Champion” helped Mike access professional help sooner and shows how a bridge for support can help to prevent further deterioration for the individual. Supported by the therapy, Mike was able to return to work.
