Do you feel alone even though you are in a relationship? Many people in unhealthy relationships ask
themselves this question every day. After years of working towards a better life, making plans for the
future, raising a family and struggling to keep our heads above water, life seems to have slipped away.
When some realize and accept that their relationship keeps pushing them down, shock sets in. Our nature
makes us feel an irrational need for companionship, even if the relationship we are in is the source of
feeling alone. The fear of being alone is a powerful emotion. Often this fear is used to justify our
unhealthy situation.
Breaking up is hard to do. A separation brings out the worst in people. It’s a blow to the ego. The idea
that their partner doesn’t choose to be with them anymore makes people very defensive.
The promise of change
The plea to give it one more try, followed by anger and casting blame
Underneath all the anger and resentment they are scared too.
Scared of being alone
Scared of what people will think
Scared that they will lose control
No matter what age you are. No matter how hopeless your situation seems. You deserve to be happy, it
may seem hard to believe but you can live a happy, fulfilling life. Take control. Change is not only
possible but good for you, it begins with a decision to reclaim control of your life. You CAN remove
yourself from an unhealthy relationship. Is it scary? YES. Is it difficult? YES. Can you do it? YES. Are
you worth it? YES YOU ARE! Say it out loud. “I am worth it”. Trust your ability to grow as a person.
Renew the belief in your resolve and determination. Visualize yourself enjoying the quality of life that
you know you deserve. Is breaking up hard to do? Yes. Can you do it? YES!
