What is confidence, really? What does being confident actually mean? And why is it so important to have? Well, the thing about confidence is that it makes life easier and success more attainable. At the end of the day, being comfortable and happy in your own skin is the key to any sort of achievement or accomplishment.

Confidence: Who, What, & How

When you pass someone on the street who looks you in the eye and waves, you know they have self-confidence. You can always tell when someone has confidence, but more importantly, you can always tell when someone doesn’t. They seem uncomfortable and uninspired.

Confidence is technically defined as the feeling or belief that you can rely on your own gut feeling. When you have self-confidence, you are overwhelmed by your own feelings of self-assurance arising from your appreciation and respect for your capabilities and qualities. Having confidence means that you trust yourself with anything and everything. It says that you are unrelenting and inspirational to yourself.

There are different ways that self-confidence can manifest in individuals. The way that our parents raise us can instill confidence or leave us lacking, and the way that we approach conflict can generate self-reliance. What really makes a difference, though, is the way that you handle a lack of control.

How Do You Gain More Confidence?

There are several ways to gain more confidence. Mix with positive people as negative influences saps your energy. Body language in the form of posture, smiling and eye contact give the impression of a confident person. Accept that everyone fails at some stage but get rid of the “inner voice” that tells you that you can’t achieve… because you can!

Become the expert in your field because if you have knowledge and others are aware that you can back up any advice, your self-confidence will not only increase but help you feel better about yourself by helping others.

Knowing you can handle what life throws at you will reassure you constantly, giving you what you need to be the very best version of yourself.
