5 Simple tips that will set you on the right track.
Unless you are extremely lucky (or a supermodel) you probably find, like me, that looking good in the morning doesn’t come automatically. And when it matters, like for a 7.00am breakfast meeting, or for an early morning interview, you can’t let that groggy feeling and your half-opened eyes be the dominant look that you show to your colleagues! So what can you do to look your best?
Here are a few tips that can give you the leading edge next time you are on show early in the morning:
1. Get a good night’s sleep beforehand
It is obvious, I know, but good sleep is your best friend if you want to look and feel well. So make sure you switch off those devices a couple of hours before going to bed, keep your room cool and dark and get off to bed when your body clock tells you that it is time, and not when you’ve just finished yet another task that you have squashed into the ever decreasing amount of time just before bedtime.
2. Get out your clothes the night before
If you know what you are going to be wearing, you will save yourself time, stress and hassle when you are dashing to eat your breakfast, sort out the kids, and to get the car started. You will have double-checked that what you have selected really does all go together. You will also know if you have everything you need – a matching pair of socks, a pair of unladdered tights, accessories that match your outfit … and so on.
3. Know which colours suit you
This one really belongs at no.1: it stands to reason that if everything in your wardrobe suits your colouring, and makes you look well and healthy, then you will automatically be streets ahead before you even start to get ready! Your wardrobe staples will already be in your best colours so you can get mixing and matching with no worries.
4. Know which styles suit you
Again if you already have a matching wardrobe of clothes which are in your best style, you will flatter your body shape, and people will get to see the real, authentic you, time after time. So an early morning breakfast meeting won’t faze you, but will be another opportunity to try out a new combination of separates from your wardrobe and added accessories in the right scale in order to create impact.
5. Wear your makeup
Unless you are Eddie Izzard or your employer is cool with it, this final tip is really for the women out there! Research shows that wearing makeup means that people trust you more – however, not too little, nor too much, as that negates the good impression – so wearing a light professional makeup to work will give you the edge. Not to mention the fact that it will help cover over those smudges under your eyes. Pictured above is our 90-sec makeup kit – yes, really! In 90 secs, you can dust on dual foundation powder, and blusher (don’t forget this one), a coating of mascara and that all-important lipstick. And you are done!
…and of course looking your best, ready to face the day, every day.
