Gill Mathias – The Reset Specialist

Helping clients reset their mindset, reclaim energy and create a life of balance, clarity and resilience.

I have recently been a panellist at a wonderful conference talking about the endless opportunities for those over 50 and the massive opportunities to start up their own business. The options for enjoying this stage of your life is immense but you do need a plan and a vision to use this time to give you peace and happiness.

I am a pre-retirement specialist coach and described by one of my clients as “The number 1 pre-retirement specialist coach!”

Transitions such as marriage or divorce, involve an ongoing process of emotional adjustment. Retirement is no exception. But “Retirement” is the greatest transition where the choice is enormous and the opportunities endless.

Many of the clients that I work with decide that this is the time for them to start up their own business, whereas others wish to travel, give their time to voluntary services or need to work as an employee for a few days a week to supplement their income.

While marriage, divorce and other family-related issues have been the focus of decades of research and analysis by the media, the emotional and psychological frontier of retirement has remained virtually unexplored…. until recently.

During the working years, retirement can appear to be both an oncoming burden and a distant paradise. Workers know that this stage of their lives is coming, and do everything they can to save for it or rely on their partners or spouse to do so. Often little thought is given to what they will actually do once they reach the goal.

After looking forward to this stage so called “Retirement” for so long, many retirees must deal with a feeling of depression and question that their self-worth is diminished. Retirement isn’t a permanent vacation after all and without a plan or a vision, it also can bring loneliness, boredom, feelings of uselessness and disillusionment

So it is vital to have a plan and a vision. A FUN plan! The fun plan includes things that you want to do, places that you want to visit and perhaps the empowering opportunity to start a new business and certainly to use time wisely. It is the time for the “baby boomers” to make their mark, as sometimes this generation has been involved with raising children and not had the opportunity to find the time or inclination to persist with a business of their own.

In my 5 pillars for a balanced life I always refer to the important spiritual pillar which involves “your sense of purpose.” Without this pillar, life can become very dull and pointless. It is the self-examination question such as “Who am I now?”, “What is my purpose at this point?” “Am I still useful in some capacity?”
